Val Venosta / Vinschgau, South Tyrol

Ortles - Stelvio - Prato / Ortler - Stilfs - Prad

The Holiday Region of Ortles comprises of a corner of alpine nature nestled in the sunny western side of the Upper Val Venosta valley and surrounded by tall mountains over 3000 meters high, culminating at 3905 meters of the King Ortles.
The region includes the towns of Prato allo Stelvio, Gomagoi, Solda, Stelvio and Trafoi, ideal starting points for excursions and walks along 250 km of well-marked trails and ranging between 900 and 3300 meters above sea level. The whole area is included in the Stelvio National Park with its many opportunities for outdoor summer holidays, from easy walks amongst the green meadows of the valley base to the most demanding alpine ascents of Mount Ortles, on the Gran Zebrù or other extremely high peaks, a real paradise for climbers and experienced hikers. The park was established in 1935 to protect the flora and fauna and preserve the geological, environmental beauty and landscape of this unique alpine area.

Ortles - Stelvio - Prato / Ortler - Stilfs - Prad

The reference center of the area is Prato allo Stelvio, at the beginning of the long valley that rises to the Stelvio Pass, where there is an excellent visitor center with the Acquaprad House of Nature. Here, the water becomes the theme of exposure and the visitor can discover the world of torrents and mountain lakes and the fish that inhabit in them. >>> <<<

Another important centre in the Holiday Village of Ortles is the village of Solda, nestled in the beautiful Val di Solda at the foot of the Ortles Mountain and surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers. The small green valley offers numerous trails for hiking, Nordic walking and mountain biking paths, as well as pastures and mountain huts up to 3000 meters with a possibility to rest and freshen up for hikers. Also present at Solda is one of the Messner Mountain Museums, with its meticulous buried structure with a low visual impact, a real art museum which houses a unique collection of mountain paintings.

Further along the valley that reaches up to the Stelvio Pass one can reach the small towns of Gomagoi, Stelvio and Trafoi, villages immersed in pine forests on the slopes of the mountains. From these locations you can take numerous hikes suitable also for families, such as a visit to the “Three Holy Fountains” or the climb to Rifugio Forcola from Trafoi, the "Sentiero di guerra alla Cima del Segnale” (Path of War at the Top of the Signal) or the "Path of the three glaciers" by Stelvio and the lake of Stelvio from Gomagoi. From Trafoi begins the Val Trafoi with the road leading up to the Stelvio Pass, linking Val Venosta and Valtellina. The road passes over an altitude difference of 1,870 meters with 48 hairpin turns and culminates at 2760 meters of the pass, a real challenge for any cyclist! In winter, the Ortler Ski Arena and the ski regions of Solda and Trafoi offer kilometers of snow filled slopes for lovers of Nordic skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, carving and backcountry skiing, but also tobogganing and snowshoeing trails. <<<
